Top 3 Questions Asked About Hair Care

(along with American Salon’s answers)

  1. How can I grow my hair faster?

Major biological factors that stimulate hair growth are: Ample circulation to follicles and scalp; a balanced diet incorporating protein, Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, and biotin; and production of keratin, a fibrous protein whose molecules make up the hair strand.

Some tweaks that can rev up these three factors include dietary changes; massage and other circulation boosters; and keratin- and biotin-rich hair products.

It's also important to address factors that cause hair loss and breakage, such as: heat damage, hormonal changes, and hair pulling and traction (from hats and headwear, tight styles, and elastic bands).

2. How often should I wash my hair?

The answer to this question varies from person to person according to scalp and hair type, plus lifestyle factors such as frequent exercise or frequent exposure to pool or ocean water.

In general, most hair pros recommend shampooing every 2-3 days, incorporating clarifying products to remove buildup and scalp care to balance the scalp's biome.

3. How do you permanently remove lice from hair?

People from all walks of life have been driven mad by these tiny insects that feed on blood. Getting rid of them is a challenge as it's not only the lice that needs to be banished, but the eggs they lay all over.

DON'T:  Waste your time on home remedies.

DO:  Wash with a medicated lice shampoo and comb hair with a fine-tooth comb to remove lice and eggs. Do this treatment twice, 9 days apart to cover the insects' full life cycle.

Wash bedding, clothes, and hair tools and accessories. Vacuum floors, carpets, and upholstery. Seal items that can’t be washed in plastic bags for 2 weeks.

The lice should be gone after that. If not, it's time to consult a doctor for prescription shampoos, soaps, lotions, or medication.
