To present the Anna Sui Fall/Winter 2024 collection at New York Fashion Week, Garren, celebrity hairstylist and co-founder of R+Co, created the silky, grunge-chic inspired hair styles for the collection.
The stylist used products from R+Co BLEU — R+Co’s fully-sustainable, couture-caliber sister collection — to create the looks.
“In this story for me, it’s how you customize the look and products based on hair type and what she needs — so, each girl has their own story," he says.
"I’m going full chic-grunge, because of the collection’s grunge headgear. There’s a scarf like Queen Elizabeth would do with a little hat on top of that, then there’s a little flip hat where are all different textures that hang in the back, like grunge. So, the girls have all these things going on.
"When I saw this, I wanted to minimize the texture. We haven’t seen silky, corn silk hair in a long time, so I’m trying to emulate that,” Garren says.
The Products
Models were given R+Co BLEU Shampoo and Conditioner to use and prep hair with the morning of the show.
- For the models with long, layered, or bobbed hair, wash and condition with Essential Shampoo and Conditioner.
- For models with curly hair, wash and condition with Soft Bounce Natural Texture & Curl Shampoo and Conditioner.
- For models with bleached or damaged hair wash, and condition with Blonded Brightening Shampoo and Blonded Brightening Masque or De Luxe Reparative Shampoo and Conditioner.
For overly processed or damage hair, apply Super Style Crème to seal the cuticle. For curly hair, work Rebounce Natural Texture & Curl Defining Crème throughout hair.
Apply Smooth & Seal Blow-Dry Mist ($66) for lasting smoothness and Optical Illusion Smoothing Oil for silky shine.
How to Style
- For those with bobs, use a round brush and flat iron to polish the look for a coquette-grunge edge.
- For those with shags, push bangs to the side and blunt the sides to evoke an early 90’s grunge vibe.
- For those with curls, smooth out hair, allowing the curls to take form, then flatten the root eight inches so that the hair will drop, adding length.
