New technology by Birmingham, AL-based Yuva Biosciences, aimed at slowing age-related hair loss due to a breakdown in cell mitochondria, has entered the market as a key ingredient in hair-restoration treatments.
The regenerative medicine company developed its YuvaBio Y100 technology by using AI to scan thousands of molecules and identify those that could restore function in the mitochondria, known as the “powerhouse of the cell.”
“This is one of the biggest innovations in hair loss we’ve seen in 25 years,” said Dr. Ken Washenik, Chief Medical Officer of BosleyMD, which specializes in hair-loss prevention and regrowth. Bosley is the first to use the Y100 technology, a key ingredient in its new Revive Plus Densifying Treatment Foams for women and men.
Yuva Biosciences co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Keshav K. Singh, is known worldwide for his studies on mitochondria, most notably his groundbreaking 2018 research that showed mitochondrial dysfunction is a key cause of aging for hair and skin, and that it could be reversed.
He founded Yuva Biosciences a year later to develop cosmeceuticals and pharmaceuticals that would target the effects of aging by restoring mitochondrial function in skin and hair. Y100 is the first such technology out of the pipeline.
