Here’s What You Missed at the PBA’s 2024 Executive Summit

Legislative wins, business tax updates, and emerging industry trends led the topics at the Professional Beauty Association’s recent 10th annual Executive Summit.

“The Power of Beauty and the Human Connection” was the theme of the two-day event in Scottsdale, AZ. Highlights included:

  • Myra Irizarry Reddy, PBA Director of Government Affairs, discussing the evolving political landscape post-election, and its impact on beauty businesses. She provided an overview of the FICA Tax Tip Credit, which will provide a tax break to salon owners with W2 employees. Reddy also lauded the Texture Education Collective for successfully passing legislation in three states requiring that licensed cosmetologists are trained and tested in textured hair.
  • Leslie Perry, PBA Director of Membership, presenting findings from a recent PBA study including a request for manufacturers and distributors to advance industry education. She also shared evidence that tools and strategies for effective salon pricing can enhance client engagement and relationships, increase visit frequency, and support business growth.
  • Jeff Bloomfield, storyteller and the event’s keynote speaker, speaking about “Neurocommunication: The Science Behind World-Class Customer Experience.” Bloomfield discussed how the science of decision-making can improve communication between beauty professionals and their clients.
  • Shane Feldman, TV host and founder of the Count Me In youth empowerment movement, sharing tips on leadership, team building, and ways that collaboration and community can help an organization stay ahead of its competition.
  • Tiffany Shlain, artist, filmmaker and author, presenting “24/6: The Power of Unplugging One Day a Week,” which explored the many benefits of her personal practice of turning off screens for one day each week.

“The 2024 Executive Summit brought together a diverse group of forward-thinking professionals passionate about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in beauty,” said PBA Executive Director Nina Daily. “The connections forged here will help shape the future of our industry.”
