After a few collections she describes as “quite artsy,” Aveda International Global Creative Director Antoinette Beenders decided to do something with a more commercial edge. Her inspiration: the club scene in the early ‘90s, which was a big part of her life. “You’d show up at some sketchy-looking club wearing Prada,” says Beenders, who shot the collection in an elevator shaft because she wanted the background to have a rough texture. “Horst used to say that he wanted us to create fashion with nature. For him it was beauty, wellness, environment, fashion and art. I think he’d be pleased with what I’ve done.”
