Beauty professionals led by Oakland -based salon owner and licensed cosmetologist Alicia Orabella will come together on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 1 pm for a peaceful rally in support of performing hair and personal care services inside their licensed establishments. Currently, the state prohibits establishments and licensed beauty professionals in counties on the County Data Monitoring List from working indoors.
Announced July 20, the most recent guidance allowed for outdoor services while limiting operations, prohibiting shampooing, chemical services and electrology. Concerned for the safety of clients and limited by other constraints, many professionals believe outdoor services do not provide a safe or viable solution.
“Everyone would be much safer inside following the requirements and guidance of the California Department of Public Health, Cal/OSHA and the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology. According to a recent study reported by the CDC, services performed inside a salon environment did not pose a significant risk when done with precautions. We welcome the opportunity to update our safety practices as needed,” says Alicia Orabella.
Following guidance provided by state, county and local authorities, owners of licensed establishments have prepared to perform services safely by requiring face coverings, screening clients for symptoms, maintaining appropriate physical distance from others, cleaning and disinfecting between clients, working with clients individually, booking by appointment only, and more.
Those interested in attending must wear face coverings, maintain physical distance from others and behave peacefully and professionally. For more information, contact Alicia Orabella through Instagram Direct Message: @alicia_orabella.
