While most nail trends change with the seasons (and then seemingly disappear for good), the French manicure is one that makes a resurgence every few years. And, although its biggest peak was nearly 20 years ago, the French is seeing a larger-than-life revival in 2021, according to an article on Allure.com.
“After briefly falling out of favor, the classic look has fully had its revival, and nail artists have started to tweak it with patterns, brights and creative schemes,” the article states. “These fun twists now have a new name in the nail art world: the American manicure.”
Although the American manicure is nothing new, according to celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik, it has taken on an entirely new meaning as of late. Years ago, the American manicure was basically a more subtle version of the French manicure—painted with a neutral base that complemented a clients’ skin tone. In 2021, however, the American manicure encompasses everything from sheer or clear bases and creamy white tips to neutral bases with colorful, vibrant tips.
Sacramento-based nail artist Icey Milli told Allure that the colorful French will be increasingly popular this fall—think warm color palettes and seasonal shades. Sign me up!
