This holiday season, put a little jingle in guest’s jangle with two texture-forward sculpted styles fit for any festive fête.
Faux Shag
Hair: Anna Peters, Sam Villa ArTeam Member and owner of re:TREAT Color + Hair Design Studio @annas_hair_retreat
Model: Melika Gradek
1. Prep the root and mid shaft with a Sam Villa Signature Series Textur Professional Texturizing Iron to add volume and expand hair.
2. Curl the prep section by wrapping hair around a Sam Villa Artist Series 2-in-1Marcel Iron and Wand 1” in a spiral fashion. Secure with a clip to cool and set.
3. Remove clips and allow curls to fall freely. Using a Sam Villa Artist Series Polishing Paddle Brush, brush hair up and twist on top of head.
4. Repeat on opposite side and secure with bobby pins.
5. Once secured, gently separate curls with fingers.
“This is a fun look because you can create it on almost any hair length, it’s really all about the pinning of the texture to create a cool shape,” says Peters. “If your guest’s hair doesn’t hold curl well, use a smaller iron for a tighter curl pattern, it will hold better.”
Expanded Texture
Hair: Ashley Brown, Sam Villa Ambassador and Mizani Artist @ash_hairbarbie
Model: Noel Hollis
1. Prep: Shampoo and condition hair with Mizani True Textures Moisture Replenish Shampoo and Conditioner. After rinsing, cover hair with a plastic cap. Start in the nape with a horizontal section. Keep the rest of the hair in the plastic cap. Saturate the section with water and Mizani 25 Miracle Milk Leave-in Conditioner.
2. Evenly distribute product with a Sam Villa Signature Series 9 Row Finishing Brush. Follow with Mizani CoCo Dew and Foam Wrap. Apply liberally and dispense with the brush.
3. Scrunch product into hair.
4. Gently separate curls for added definition.
5. Repeat steps 1- 4 with the remaining sections of hair.
6. Diffuse with a Sam Villa Light Professional Ionic Blow Dryer and deep bowl diffuser on high heat and low airspeed. Try not to touch or disrupt the curls while diffusing. To lock in the curl pattern, start diffusing hair with the head in an upright position. Once curls are set, to add volume, finish diffusing by moving head forward, backward and side to side.
“A good cut will celebrate natural texture, as well as allow for style shifting into other looks more easily, which is great for the holiday party season,” explains Brown. “And remember, use a brush for detangling, it’s much better than a comb, and hold hair midway down the length when brushing to avoid creating tension at the root.”
