An updo without pins? You read that right—Goldwell US artist and 2015 Global ColorZoom Partner Gold Winner Corinne Brown (@corrinevbrown) created two luxe upstyles without using any pins. But don’t worry, Brown incorporated wrapped leather and elastics to ensure they’re secure enough for any crazy holiday party. Inspired by recent runway trends, these two salon-friendly looks are ultra-glossy, sleek and guaranteed to last all night.
Get the Look
Look One:
- Prep hair with Goldwell Just Smooth Smooth Control onto dry hair, and blow dry in to help seal cuticles.
- Section hair down the center of the head to the top of the ears, then another at the top of the round down to the hairline in the front.
- Starting on the back, apply Goldwell Creative Texture Crystal Turn with a color brush onto the roots, painting the product in for a smooth, shiny and almost wet look. Continue by using a comb to work the product through the lengths and secure hair into a low ponytail by wrapping with golden elastic.
- Working on the front, apply more gel and direct the hair up into a high ponytail at the top of the head. Apply more product to help smooth the sides. Secure with golden elastic.
- Apply more product to the ponytail lengths and brush through. Attach a plastic needle to the golden thread, and threading underneath the base of the ponytail (directly above the part line), loop the thread on top of the ponytail length and through to attach a portion of the ponytail to the head, creating a “bulb”. Continue by threading the elastic through several times to wrap and secure.
- Pull the rest of the ponytail length down to meet the low ponytail and wrap with golden elastic to secure both together.
- Working on the side sections, brush through with more gel. Smooth and direct both sides together straight into the center and secure with wrapped golden elastic. Brush more product through and repeat the threading process in step five to create another “bulb” (this time threading underneath the part line).
- Take the middle ponytail and pull it down to meet the bottom one. Secure with golden elastic to combine the two (like step six).
- Add gel to the ponytail at the nape and rope braid, securing with a clear elastic band. Twist the braid up into a low bun and secure with golden elastic by sewing through the braid. Leave the braids end poking out.
Look Two:
- Prep hair with Goldwell Just Smooth Smooth Control onto dry hair, and blow dry in to help seal cuticles.
- Section hair down the center of the head to the top of the ears, then another at the top of the round down to the hairline in the front.
- Paint Goldwell Creative Texture Crystal Turn into the roots with a color brush and comb through. Direct the hair up to into a high ponytail at the top of the head, applying more gel if needed to smooth the sides. Secure by wrapping with golden elastic.
- Apply more gel to the ponytail lengths and brush through. Attach a plastic needle to the golden thread, and threading underneath the base of the ponytail (directly above the partline), loop the thread on top of the ponytail length and through to attach a portion of the ponytail to the head, creating a “bulb”. Continue by threading the elastic through several times to wrap and secure.
- Smooth the back into a low ponytail and secure with golden elastic.
- Working on the first ponytail, tie a strand of golden faux leather underneath the base of the bauble. Continue by wrapping the ponytail with the leather.
- Once you’ve reached the bottom ponytail, continue two to three wraps further working into the bottom ponytail, attaching the two together.
- Fold the bottom ponytail up in half (leaving the ends out) and continue wrapping the leather around base to secure the looped style. Tie off to secure.
- Finish by rubbing more gel around the hairline to bring out soft wisps and set with Goldwell Perfect Hold Magic Finish Hairspray. Spray with Goldwell Just Smooth Diamond Gloss to add extra shine.
