Ellen Devine (@ellendevinehair) was the go-to girl in high school when someone wanted tape-in extensions. Before she knew it, she was cutting hair, and eventually transformed into a passion for hairdressing. When Devine’s hairstylist suggested that she go to beauty school, she knew she’d found her path.
AHA MOMENT In high school, I started putting hair extensions in my friends' hair, which escalated into cutting their hair. Doing hair wasn’t something that I dreamed of doing my whole life, but rather something that I fell into. I quickly became obsessed.
TRAINING DAYS I went to Paul Mitchell The School St. Louis.
CLAIM TO FAME I’ve focused a lot of my career on understanding the fundamentals of haircutting. My passion for haircutting and education led me to becoming a facilitator at The Redken Exchange with some of the top hairdressers in our industry.
SOCIAL BUTTERFLY You can follow me on Instagram at @EllenDevineHair.
MY MUSES One of the most influential people I've met is Redken Artist Brent Borreson. When I was on the Redken Symposium Grand Opening team, he shared more knowledge about wigs in one week than I had received in my whole career.
SECRET WEAPONS Redken Dry Shampoo Paste 05, Triple Dry 15 Texture Finishing Spray and Frizz Dismiss Anti-Static Oil Mist.
WORDS OF WISDOM "When you learn, teach. When you get, give.”—Maya Angelou
MY MENTORS My main mentor who has always been there to help me grow and support me is Sam Villa. He is a huge role model to me, both in the hair industry and in life.
BUCKET LIST My list is long! I would love to educate internationally. I have always loved education, and the main reason I became an educator is because I loved everything about beauty school—I can see myself opening one someday.
BRIGHT FUTURE Any time I have an idea or feel inspired I write it all in a book and sketch it out. Some things I have yet to test out, so I want to start creating them and submit then for NAHA in the future.
