Oscar Blandi began working in his father’s salon in Naples, Italy, at the age of 14 in order to meet girls, and his love for the fairer sex continues to live in every cut and style he crafts today at his eponymous salon in New York City.
Now after striking up a partnership with Wella, Blandi’s first collection for the brand, City Life, was naturally inspired by the signature female archetypes of New York. Blandi showed the collection for the first time at Intercoiffure’s 2016 Fall Atelier in Manhattan, where he presented looks ranging from urban chic to high society to avant-garde.
This day-to-night look is what all the girls in New York try to achieve for a big night out. The Victoria’s Secret, Gisele-inspired hair style was created with a hand-tease technique, a 1 ¼”-barrel curling iron and lots of EIMI Ocean Spritz texturizing spray to boost volume and thickness.
This downtown girl is ready for date night. After coloring the hair with Wella Professionals Illumina Color, Blandi created this asymmetrical bob. Using EIMI Sugar Lift spray to thicken the hair and EIMI Root Shoot mousse to volumize, he loosely ran a curling iron through strands, leaving the ends out.
This look represents the classic SoHo girl. After using Wella Color Touch in dark brown to enhance her natural shade, Blandi used just two rubber bands on each section to secure the style, pulling pieces out to make sure it didn’t feel so coiffed. He then applied EIMI Stay Essential spray on her nose-grazing bangs, which he teased and pulled back using EIMI Just Brilliant pomade and bobby pins.
An ode to the sophisticated, uptown girl, this look began with a high ponytail (Blandi applied EIMI Ocean Spritz texturizing spray and EIMI Stay Essential hairspray throughout), which he set and twisted, leaving the ends out. For a faux-fringe effect, he pushed the ends towards the top of the head.
