Oribe Showcases Their Talent at New York Fashion Week: Men’s S/S 2019

Men’s Fashion Week circled back to the Big Apple this week after a whirlwind of Paris pitstops. Bringing a stylish balance of streetwear and not-so-traditional outwear to the city, each of the shows further proved that designers are continually blurring the conventional lines in men's beauty and fashion. While the fashion surely deserves its own recognition, you know we're here for the hair.

In New York, Oribe Educators took on eleven different shows on July 9 and styled both classic and creative looks on their models. Here, they share step-by-steps for each of the looks. 

AGENT S/S 2019 | Hair by Nathan Nguyen using Oribe Hair Care

AGENT transported viewers to a futuristic world with a Miami vibe during their Spring/Summer 2019 presentation. Oribe Educator Nathan Nguyen created semi-wet styles with natural textures to mimic the aftermath of a quick dip in the water. 

Get the look:

1. Apply Foundation Mist from roots to ends and leave hair damp.
2. Spray Maximista Thickening Spray from roots to ends and diffuse hair until dry. 
3. Using a flat iron, create natural bends in the hair and apply Aprés Beach Wave and Shine Spray before setting sections with pins. 
4. Finish hair with a soft, natural part.

Limitato was conceptualized around the idea of creating wearable art through collaboration with photographers and artists around the world. The designer’s Spring/Summer 2019 wardrobe presentation inspired Oribe Educator Mandee Tauber to create hairstyles reflective of the 1950s youth subculture with a modern-day twist.

Get the look:

1. Prep hair with Foundation Mist to loosen natural texture. 
2. Apply Rock Hard Gel and blow dry hair to create a swept-back shape with volume. 
3. Once set, layer Gel Sérum throughout the hair to give high shine and a sleek silhouette.

Bristol S/S 2019 | Hair by Christian Ceja-Compin using Oribe Hair Care

Fascinated by the intersection of sport and fashion, Bristol took inspiration from the ’90s basketball era and focused their Spring/Summer 2019 collection on sportswear and the body. Complimentary hairstyles created by Oribe Educator Christian Ceja-Compin embraced natural texture and individuality.

Get the look:

2. Apply Imperial Blowout Transformative Styling Crème from roots to ends and rough dry to keep the natural grit.

HBNS S/S 2019 | Hair by Dan Nguyen using Oribe Hair Care

HBNS leaned on the inspiration brought about during the ‘90s grunge movement for its Spring/Summer 2019 showcase. Oribe Educator Dan Nguyen channeled era-appropriate bad boy heartthrobs Kurt Cobain and Johnny Depp to create lived-in locks. 

Get the look:

1. Prep hair with Foundation Mist.
2. Use Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse from roots to ends for structure and control. 
3. Work Curl Control Silkening Cream through hair to regain moisture and tame loose strands. 
4. Finish with Flash Form Finishing Spray Wax for a satin finish.  

Krammer + Stoudt S/S 2019 | Hair by Louis Orozco using Oribe Hair Care

Fresh from a trip to Japan, Michael Rubin, the designer behind Krammer & Stoudt, took cues from Japanese theater when creating the Spring/Summer 2019 collection. Oribe Educator Louis Orozco kept hair soft with natural waves to accompany the overall vision.

Get the look:

2. Mold hair into soft waves using Flash Form Finishing Spray Wax.
3. For extra hold, finish with Superfine Hair Spray. 

David Hart S/S 2019 | Hair by Kien Hoang using Oribe Hair Care

The ’70s were alive and well during David Hart’s Spring/Summer 2019 presentation. Oribe Director of Training & Content Kien Hoang created luxurious looks featuring bounce, deep side parts, and classic feathered styles to keep the vibe solidly in the “me” decade.

Get the look:

1. For longer locks, prep hair by blow drying. Set and pin using Mystify Restyling Spray and Thick Dry Finishing Spray.
2. Curl sections and comb through to create bounce and feathered effect.
3. Finish with Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray to eliminate flyaways. 
4. For shorter lengths, comb into an off-center part, and set with Freestyler Working Hairspray. 

Vanessa Zhang S/S 2019 | Hair by Dan Nguyen using Oribe Hair Care

The Vanessa Zhang Fashion Incubator serves as a developmental program for up-and-coming designers, three of which were outstanding enough to be showcased in the Spring/Summer 2019 exhibition. To celebrate the natural textures and individuality of each collection, Oribe Educator Dan Nguyen uniquely styled each model.

Get the look:

1. Prep hair with Run-Through Detangling Primer from roots to ends.
2. Use Curl by Definition Crème to add moisture to hair. 
3. Finish with Gel Sérum for control and texture.   

This is Sweden S/S 2019 | Hair by Louis Orozco using Oribe Hair Care

Drawing from his own experiences as a refugee, Sweden designer Pablo Londono mixed classic tailoring with deconstructed pieces for his Spring/Summer 2019 collection. The diversity of models inspired Oribe Educator Louis Orozco to create equally diverse hairstyles.

Get the look:

TAAKK S/S 2019 | Hair by Kien Hoang using Oribe Hair Care

Bold colors, graphic prints and paint splatters set the tone for the TAAKK Spring/Summer 2019 showcase. Oribe Director of Training & Content Kien Hoang translated this inspiration quite literally to the hair, incorporating graphic paint strokes on top of sleek styles.

Get the look:

1. Prep hair with Maximista Thickening Spray.
2. Use Rock Hard Gel to slick hair flat to the head. 
3. Set hair with Superfine Strong Hair Spray.
4. Wrap hair in cellophane and stroke with paint to complete the look. 

Sundae School S/S 2019| Hair by Nathan Nguyen using Oribe Hair Care

Sundae School theorized the idea of scholars who also enjoy the pleasures of life when creating their Spring/Summer 2019 collection. Oribe Educator Nathan Nguyen embraced the juxtaposition between structure and organic aesthetics when creating various styles for this show, such as the below style that featured abundant volume and natural texture.

Get the look:

1. Prep with Mystify Restyling Spray and leave hair damp. 
2. Apply Maximista Thickening Spray from roots to ends, partially dry hair to eliminate the majority of moisture. 
3. Section hair organically into three sections, loosely braid and set braids using a flat iron.
4. Once dry, release braids and separate using fingers or a fine-tooth comb.
5. Apply Swept Up Volume Powder Spray to create a matte, lived-in finish. 
6. Finish with Dry Texturizing Spray for added volume and texture.

Descendant of Thieves S/S 2019 | Hair by Christian Ceja-Compin using Oribe Hair Care

The spontaneous travels of young men that land themselves in Tulum, Mexico, served as the inspiration for the Descendant of Thieves Spring/Summer 2019 collection. The beach landscape made way for Oribe Educator Christian Ceja-Compin to create beachy, lived-in looks. 

Get the look:

2. Apply Matte Waves Texture Lotion to define waves and natural texture. 
3. On the ends, finish with Flash Form Finishing Spray Wax and Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray for added texture.
4. At the roots, finish with Volumista Mist for Volume for a lifted root.
