Catering to brides takes a lot of planning, communication and skill to ensure they feel calm and beautiful. Rituals Salon and Spa (Midlothian, VA), has brides register online and provides a recommended preparation plan to make sure any and all expectations are met. They also installed special equipment like the Freestylist, a weightless blow drying system that elevates styling to an art while decreasing drying time.
“The ergonomic design offers a sleek, cord-free option for our stylists, freeing up space in and around our workstations for other tools that require electrical connection,” says Jessica Skym, salon manager. “Plus, it’s a WOW factor we can offer that makes brides feel like they are having a special service.”
Senior stylist, Errin Bennett, shares a “how to” for creating perfectly prepped hair for bridal styling and a great foundation for an organic bridal bun.
Organic Bridal Bun
1. Use Eufora Bodifying Shampoo and Conditioner to provide moisture and shine without weighing hair down.
2. Prep products are key in creating the perfect canvas. Apply Leaf & Flower 7 Minute Blowout Spray all over and Kevin Murphy Body Builder Mousse to the roots to build a voluminous blowout with shine and movement.
3. Rough dry hair using hands and the Freestylist until hair is 80% dry. Working in sections, use an Ergo Round Brush to lift up at the root and create volume. The extended barrel and handle, in combination with the Freestylist, helps reduce drying time.
4. Set with a light to medium hold hairspray like Davines that has flexible hold and a natural finish.
5. Curl hair with a 1.25” barrel curling iron and let cool. Spray all over with Kevin Murphy Doo Over Powder Spray to create texture and maximum hold.
6. Pin a donut in the center of the back of the head, twist hair in 1” sections and secure into the donut using U-shaped hair pins. A slight tease to the crown will build more body.
7. Gently pull out a few face-framing pieces for softness. Fresh flowers or a bedazzled hair pin can be added to accessorize.
8. Set with Kevin Murphy Session Hairspray for ultimate hold.
Sample Bridal Preparation Plan
4-6 Weeks: Updo and makeup consultations with facial
2 Weeks: Relaxing massage and wax
Week of: Lashes, manicure and pedicure
Day of: Updo and makeup application
“Having clear expectations for both our team and our guests allows us to meet needs gracefully and alleviate a lot of the guess work for all involved,” notes Skym.
