Sports Illustrated recently launched its Swim Issue, and celeb hairstylist Mitchell Ramazon used Hairstory products on the issue's cover model Brooks Nader to prep her for the NYC & Miami Launch weekends.
NYC Red Carpet (on May 18, 2023):
Here is how Ramazon says the look was achieved:
- To achieve our 90s-inspired updo we prepped Brooks’ hair with Hairstory Lift on the roots while her hair was damp and applied dressed up to the mid-shaft and ends to protect her hair from the blow dryer and hot styling tools.
- After blowing out Brooks’ hair I pin-curled her bangs to set while I brushed back the rest of her hair into a high pony. For maximum hold, I spritzed Undressed to the bangs before pinning them up.
- Using wax, I applied a small amount around Brooks’ hairline to get a sleek look free of flyaways. Brushing the Wax back and into the rest of the hair as I pulled the hair into the ponytail.
- Using a one-and-a-half inch curling iron I gently curled the hair pulled into the pony and applied a small amount of Hair Balm to add moisture and volume. Once the hair cooled down I pinned it up creating a rounded messy shape.
- Lastly, I took down the pin-cut bangs and set them in place while misting in Undressed and using a blow dryer on a low setting to dry the product in place and Brooks was red carpet ready!
Miami Red Carpet (on May 19, 2023):
Here is how Ramazon says the look was achieved:
- To achieve our pulled-back mermaid texture, we first applied a generous amount of Hairstory Undressed thorough out Brooks’ hair and lift to the roots before blow-drying the entire head with our fingers. Our focus was to create a base with a touchable texture that would last all night.
- After the hair is dried use a large three-barrel curling iron to create a soft wave. Don’t forget to first apply a small amount of Dressed Up to the mid-lengths and ends for heat protection. Once the hair has cooled down and the waves are set, grab a generous amount of Hair Oil, apply first to the ends, and work your way up to the scalp.
- If your hair is on the thicker side, grab small amounts of Hair Balm and apply it to the roots to create a more wet appearance because of the moisture-rich ingredients.
- Once the hair is shiny and appears wet, pull back the hair into a low pony while selectively pulling out a few pieces around the face. Giving the appearance of the hair being pushed off the face and cascading down the back of the head. Finish off with a mist of Undressed to set the look in place and Brooks was ready to perform on stage with Kim Petras.
Miami Party (May 20, 2023):
Here is how Ramazon says the look was achieved:
- Brooks’ long hair texture, inspired by her cover photo of Sports Illustrated, started with a base of Hairstory Lift at the root and Hair Balm on the ends before blow drying the hair to create volume at the root. Elevating the brush 90 degrees off the head for the maximum lift!
- After the hair is dry, apply a few mists of Undressed and hit the blow dryer on a cool setting to dry the product in place and create a touchable texture.
- Now we can use a curling iron and know that the hair will hold its shape because of the current combo of products dried into the hair. Using a 1 and 1/2 inch curling iron and a 3-barrel iron, curl the hair and rotate between the two hot tools for a more lived-in texture.
- Apply small amounts of Hair Oil to hands and break up the curls after it’s cooled down. Using the Wax gently clean up the hairline and top of the head of any flyaways. This combo of products with be sure to make your look last all night! Even in the Miami humidity!
