With her shorter, dimensionally toned brunette hair snipped into an Italian bob and styled to evoke vintage Hollywood glamour, Penelope Cruz hearkened back to classic film noir at the Met Gala 2024 in an off-the-shoulder black Chanel ballgown.
Celebrity colorist Matt Rez and hairstylist Pablo Iglesias shared the actress' color formulas and step-by-step styling tutorial using Moroccanoil products. Makeup artist Hung Vanggo created her dramatic beauty look with Lancôme makeup, for which Cruz is a Global Brand Ambassador.

“Penelope wanted a chocolatey copper vibe for a change! She looks beautiful with warm tones,” Rez says.
Formulas:
- For the hairline base, start by using the Moroccanoil Professional Hair Color Rhapsody and mix it to create a blend that is equal parts of 7.00 + 7.9 = 20 volume.
- Then, for the base off hairline, use the same shade of Hair Color Rhapsody and mix it together using equal parts of 6.00 + 6.9 = 5 volume.
- Once the mixtures are concocted, allow the base color to process for 40 minutes.
- For an added shine, use the Moroccanoil Demi-Permanent Gloss in the shade Calypso and mix it to be equal parts of 7.4 + 7.46 + 8.4 + 8.9 + 9.3 + orange infusion.
- Allow the mixture to process for 10 minutes and then apply.

“The inspiration behind the look was classic Hollywood movies from the 30s, full of glamour in black and white, mixed with all the characters from fairy tales from Sleeping Beauty to Snow White,” Iglesias says.
Step by Step:
- Wash with Moisture Repair Shampoo. Apply Weightless Hydrating Mask for softness, and add a drop of Moroccanoil Treatment Light.
- Towel dry and apply Root Boost to the roots and Volumizing Mousse from the middle to the ends.
- Dry with a diffuser. Define curls with the Everlasting Curl Titanium Curling Iron and lightly spritz with Dry Texture Spray.
- Set the finished look with Luminous Hairspray Extra Strong.
