Matrix Global Creative Director Chrystofer Benson shares a new collection of bold, beautiful images exclusively with us.
It’s no surprise that hair color takes center stage in Chrystofer Benson’s latest collection, Rusticolor—Benson was named NAHA Haircolorist of the Year in 2010, 2014 and 2016—but set design was just as important. “I wanted a rustic feeling so the bold colors jumped out,” says Benson, who used a combination of Matrix products and tools from his own CBC (Chrystofer Benson Collective) brand to color and dress the hair.

To accentuate the hair color, Benson created a strong French braid down the top with intricate cornrows on the side and soft waves in the back.
Pastel shades of violet and soft yellow were applied with CBC Artistic Color Brushes for optimal blending and no lines. Benson used the CBC Smoothing Iron to add height on top, which enhanced the strong silhouette with deconstructed texture. Matrix Style Link Style Fixer Finishing Hairspray provided lasting hold and a ultra-dry finish.
After backcombing the hair, Benson applied Matrix Style Link Style Fixer Finishing Hairspray to individual sections before flat-ironing them with the CBC Smoothing Iron. Then he used a blow-dryer to heat the hair so he was able to mold it into the shape he wanted.
After setting the hair on a knitting needle, spraying it with Matrix Style Link Style Fixer Finishing Hairspray and smoothing it with the CBC Smoothing Iron, Benson pulled the style apart and created a bob shape with length hanging over the top.
