“Inspired by the electric atmosphere of the world’s biggest music festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury, this collection is about a love of life and freedom,” says Sophie Gibson (@sg_hairportfolio) about Festival, her portfolio of mesmerizing looks seen on these pages. To ensure the hair and Bowie-inspired makeup were in perfect sync, Gibson—a stylist at Hooker & Young (@hookerandyoung) in Newcastle, England—accentuated eyebrows and lids with pops of color and played up hair with imaginative styles imbued with pastel hues. “For extra impact, we added the element of selfie mode with bright lighting,” says Gibson. “The models’ expressive faces bring happiness to the collection and emphasize that it’s OK to be exactly who you want to be."
For this shape, Sophie Gibson sectioned the hair from ear to ear, then created two perfect ponytails that resembled a veil.
For a twist on the mullet, Gibson cut the hair on top tight around the head, then brought the length down through the fringe area. Next, she razored the mid-lengths and ends to achieve choppy, fluid movement.
Gibson created semicircle sections, leaving one-inch sections around the hairline. She wove on rope braids, twisting them to help them stand out, before tightly tonging the front pieces and pinning all sections at the nape.
Gibson added panels of toners to this modern mullet shape featuring jagged sides. She finished the look by working texturizing products throughout the top section before blow-drying the hair smooth through the back.
