Clients with textured hair battle dry strands regularly, so it makes sense that dehydration and breakage are even more likely in the colder months. Here, Jon Carlos De La Cruz, Cosmo Prof artistic team member, is sharing his top tips for keeping hair hydrated and how to stop breakage before it starts.
What are your top tips for keeping hair hydrated in the colder months?
Staying on top of moisturizing is key when it comes to protecting your hair from the cold. It does get tricky because the less shampoo, the better. Textured hair still needs natural sebum and oils to do their thing and nourish the hair with its nutrients. With that, dry shampoo like Moroccanoil Dry Shampoo - Dark Tone will be your bestie during this time. This will help eliminate product build up while leaving the hair nourished.
When washing, I recommend Moroccanoil Shampoo & Conditioner. The formula is thick, moisturizing and hydrating, giving strands the added boost they need during the cooler months. A leave-in conditioner is also very helpful keeping the hair hydrated while using heat styling.
What are some of the biggest challenges clients with textured hair face in the winter?
Clients with textured hair naturally already have dry hair. Cold weather can make the hair dehydrated which can make the hair weak and ultimately cause breakage. Staying on top of hydration should be a key focus to fight against the winter elements.
What can clients do to prevent these challenges before they happen?
With all of this in mind, as the weather gets cooler, look for products that boost hydration and retain moisture. Similar to our skin routines changing in the fall and winter, our hair has different needs during these seasons, too.
