If you're anything like me, your hair is probably begging for some love right now—I'm used to seeing my hairstylist about every six weeks for a trim (and even more frequently for a wash and blowout if I'm in the mood to treat myself). As I'm coming up on nearly two months in quarantine, my hair is in dire need of some TLC.
American Salon asked Briana Cisneros, Wella Professionals Global Ambassador, to share her advice on bringing hair back to life during lockdown. "It's easier than you think," Cisneros says. "The first thing would be to just take a break. Take a break from heat styling; take a break from washing it so often; take a break from color services for a little bit. Giving your hair a rest is amazingly effective when it comes to bringing it back to health again," she adds.
When it's time for a treatment, Cisneros likes to call on Wella Professionals Fusionplex Mask. This luxurious, creamy mask features intense conditioning ingredients and silk amino acids for strong and smooth hair.
If you don't have a professional-grade mask at your disposal right now, you can always create your own using some household ingredients. "One of my favorites that treats hair damage is a very simple one," Cisneros says. "It’s an olive oil and avocado mask that is packed full of omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants, which help fight off free radicals and helps moisturize the scalp."
- Ingredients: Half an avocado, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and 1 tablespoon of honey
- Directions: Apply to wet hair with your fingertips, starting at the bottom and working your way up. Next, it’s helpful to wrap your hair up and cover it with a shower cap. To allow it to penetrate the hair, sit in the sun or keep it nice and warm for 20 minutes and wash out in the shower.
