Meeeeeow! Inspired by the multi-tonal beauty of its feline namesake, the super-extra calico hair look is comprised of defined sections of blonde, red, and brunette shades.
Here are interpretations of the hair color trend by PRAVANA educators Amanda Kay DiMuzio, Lauren Giles, and George Blanco, who calls it "the perfect option for the client who wants dimension but can't commit to one specific shade.
"There are the people that love being brunette, red, or blonde," he says, "and this gives the people wanting just a little bit more to have their cake and eat it too.
"It also leaves it up for interpretation, much like how the calico cat’s patterns are never exactly like another. It brings creativity and personality to the forefront.”

Step by Step
1. Section the hair into blocks by creating a 1” face frame and a large halo section in the crown beginning 2” back from the face frame section. Create 2 blocks on each side by taking a vertical parting behind the ear and a horizontal parting along the parietal ridge. Create 6 block sections in the back by taking a horizontal parting along the top of the occipital bone and vertical partings dividing each large section created into 3 blocks.
2. Apply the Lightening Formula using your favorite global blonding technique to the face frame section, the crown section and the left and right blocks below the occipital bone.
3. Apply ChromaSilk Formula 1 to the bottom block on each side, the left and right blocks above the occipital bone and the middle block below the occipital bone.
4. Apply ChromaSilk Formula 2 to the top block on each side and the middle block above the occipital bone.
5. Process 30 minutes at room temperature keeping an eye on the lightened sections rinsing those when they reach Level 10.
6. Cleanse and Condition with PRAVANA’s Color Protect Cleanse and towel dry.
7. Apply ChromaSilk Formula 3 to the pre-lightened sections.
8. Process 10 minutes at room temperature.

Step by Step
1. Create a block section in the nape area by taking a horizontal parting along the middle of the occipital bone and apply Formula 1.
2. Apply Formula 2 to the base of the remaining hair.
3. Using a back-to back foiling technique alternate the Lightening Formula, Formulas 1 and 2 melted into Formula 3.
Pro Tip: To create chunkier sections, apply a few foils of the same shade back-to-back.
4. Process 30 minutes at room temperature keeping an eye on your lightened sections and removing those when they reach a Level 10.
5. Cleanse the hair with PRAVANA’s Color Protect Cleanse and towel-dry the hair.
6. Apply ChromaSilk Formula 4 to the pre-lightened sections.
7. Process 20 minutes at room temperature.

Step by Step
1. Section the hair into three sections: part the hair at the natural part, then create two front quadrants sections by taking a parting from crown to behind the ear on each side, the remaining hair is your back section.
2. Apply Lightening Formula 1 to the front right quadrant, then Lightening Formula 2 to the back section using a platinum card technique for both, lifting the back section to Level 7 and the front right quadrant to Level 10.
3. Cleanse the hair with PRAVANA’s Color Protect Cleanse and dry the hair.
4. Apply ChromaSilk Formula 1 to the back section and ChromaSilk Formula 2 to the right front quadrant section. If the hair is not naturally dark, apply Formula 3 to the front left quadrant section.
5. Process 30 minutes at room temperature.
