During the peak of the pandemic, many clients resorted to at-home beauty, coloring their own hair, giving themselves facials and manicures, and more. As salons and spas began to open in 2021, the excitement to return was imminent, and the numbers prove it. Here, Spate outlines the top-trending services this year, based on search data.
Facials (1,701,290), eyelash extensions (968,210) and botox (915,070) led in number of searches online
Virtual consultation (+350.7%), baby botox (+212.1%), cat eye thread lift (+196.3%) and steaming face (+177.2%) had the largest YOY growth of searches.
Botox lip flip saw a +134.3% YOY growth in online search. The more natural-looking version of lip filler appears to flip the top lip and make it more voluminous. This service experienced strong growth in search interest in 2020. Although searches spiked in October, the trend is on the rise again. Overall, there are only a total of 36 terms searched alongside the procedure — indicating that consumers are still in the early stages of awareness. Many of the search terms are question-related.
Eyebrow lift saw a +66.1% YOY growth in search. This procedure raises the soft tissue and skin of the forehead/brow, and is said to reduce wrinkles. While the searches indicate that consumers are comparing different types of injection options, they are also seeking brow-related lifts from other product formats such as pencils, tapes, and plasma pens.
Thread lift saw saw a +84.9% YOY growth in search and there are very few market leaders in this category. The procedure uses temporary sutures to create a subtle lift in the skin and can be done on a variety of places on the face and body.
